This is a remote direct binding of a Japanese Kappa Spirit, to an item of your choosing that you possess. No objects will be mailed to you. However, if you prefer, we bind the spirit to an object in our possession and mail it to you, contact us, and we will set up a custom order for you. You will be required to pay the shipping charges, in this case. We can bind the kappa's spirit to a statue, a piece of jewelry, a small animal figurine, or just about anything you desire, providing we either have it in stock or we can get the item locally. The Kappa is not concerned with the type of vessel you choose for it. It is not at all concerned with appearances, whether male or female.

The Kappa is also referred to as Gatarō, and sometimes Kawako. It is an amphibious kami found in traditional Japan. They are typically depicted as green, human-like beings with webbed hands & feet, and a turtle-like carapace on their back. They are gender specific. We are visited by both male Kappas and females when we conjure them, but we generally receive more males than we do females. Female Kappas simply do not visit us as often when we request them in a conjure practice, so they are harder to conjure.  We do not know if they are rarer or if they just are not as open to becoming placed with a spirit keeper.

Kappa are Japanese flesh-eating water imps who live in rivers, lakes, ponds, and other watery realms. They smell like fish and are generally portrayed with the body of a tortoise, ape-like head, scaly limbs, long hair circling the skull, webbed feet and hands, and yellow-green skin. They are often depicted with a tortoise shell attached to their backs. Some say they can change color like the chameleon. They abhor metal objects and loud noises (cannon fire, gunfire, etc.).

The defining characteristic of the Kappa is the hollow cavity atop its head. This saucer-like depression holds a strength-giving fluid. It is also referred to as the "dish" in which they must retain water in order to maintain their supernatural strength. Should you chance upon the quarrelsome Kappa, please remember to bow deeply. If the courteous Kappa bows in return, it will spill its strength-giving water, making it feeble, and forcing it to return to its water kingdom.

The Kappa is only about the size of a child aged 6 -10, but nonetheless, it is incredibly strong. It attacks horses, cattle, and humans, usually dragging its prey into the water, where, according to various legends, it feeds on their blood, or drains their life force, or pulls out their livers through their anuses, or sucks out their entrails, leaving nothing behind except a hollow gourd. In some descriptions and stories told by locals, the Kappa is associated with theft and raping women. There are rumors of Kappa pulling small children into the water & drowning them.

To date, they are still spoken of as "boogeymen" among Japanese parents to scare their children away from dangerous waters where they may come to harm people in other ways.

There are numerous reasons one would want a Kappa as a companion, and a true Kappa lover knows those reasons. This is most definitely not a spirit to adopt for the novice. It is important to set your house rules immediately upon receiving your Kappa. The first thing you need to convey is that you and everyone else in your household are off limits if they feel the need to harm someone. Go into great detail about this! You must specify that anyone you care about, whether they step foot into your home or not, should not be harmed. You should tell them that they should not even appear in your dreams, turning them into nightmares. They should not send vicious visions to your mind, and they should not ever make you feel uncomfortable about having them with you.

While Kappa are omnivores, their favorite foods are eggplant and cucumbers! (Neither of which are meats, as you know!)

Fun fact: The popular kappamaki (cucumber roll) sushi dish gets its name from this creature!

We currently have only three Kappa spirits lingering around our spirit-drawing headquarters at the time this listing is posted, so if you are reading this and you see we are "out of stock", please check back later, or ask to be put on a waiting list. By the way, we despise the term "Out of Stock" when it comes to spirits up for adoption, but that's what our website posts automatically when there is a zero-quantity showing in inventory. We would love for it to read, "No spirits available for adoption", or "Adopted", in the case of a single, unique spirit. We are working with our developer to remedy this in the case of spirits, as you all know spirits do not like to be spoken of as objects that we sell, since they are anything but "things". They are spirits we adopt out to people who match their needs and meet their criteria, no different from a child in an orphanage. Spirits are not dolls, jewelry, antiques, or any object. These are merely the objects they attach to so that they can better communicate with you and so that you can relate to them in the best way possible. Much more about this will be explained in Meta's book about spirits and spirit-keeping, once it is published.

You do not have to be pre-qualified to adopt a Kappa, as they are not particular with who adopts them. They are more concerned about receiving the offerings they wish for, which consist of cucumbers, eggplant, grass, spring flowers, mud or wet sand, and pictures of children. It is up to you to understand the reality of adopting a Kappa spirit, and what to expect.

As with all spirits up for adoption with Moondance Magik™, we require that you read our Terms of Service before adopting these spirits. By making a purchase of any kind from this site, you agree that you have read and understand our Terms of Service. Please read them before making any purchase, even if you are an existing customer or client, as they are updated frequently.
