Bayou was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to a witch who wanted nothing to do with children. She wasn't even sure how she got pregnant, as she wanted nothing to do with men, either! She figured she must have gotten knocked up when she was drunk one night, because she often had drunken evenings when she drank out of control.

Her biological mother gave birth to her on October 9, 1904, and gave her up for adoption. She was adopted just four days later by a couple who could not have children of their own.

Her adoptive mother, Doris, also practiced witchcraft, mainly for survival, as she lived on her own from the time she was 15. Doris married a man named Virgil, when she was just 18. Doris was an African-American woman, and Virgil was an Englishman who's grandparents migrated to the states before he was born.

Virgil and Doris did not have many friends, as bi-racial marriages were frowned upon at that time in history. To find out they could not have children only made Doris feel even more lonely. Bayou was their little blessing! Doris and Virgil had no names picked out for her at the time they learned they were matched up with a baby, and Bayou's biological mother had no interest in giving her a name, since she wouldn't be raising her. The moment Doris held Bayou and  looked at fer for the first time, the name came to her lips..."Bayou".

Doris now has a recollection of this moment, and she plays it over and over again in her spiritual mind. She said her mother whispered, "Bayou" with tears in her eyes and she kissed her on the lips. Bayou said it was the most magickal moment of her life. She felt truly loved.

Doris and Virgil never let Bayou out of their sight. She was their everything. When Bayou was 5 years old, she started asking a lot of questions about all the tinctures, crystals, and dolls she saw her mother "playing" with. Her mother simply told her she was making crafts for other people to enjoy. Finally, when Bayou was 7 years of age, she decided it was time to lay the truth down to Bayou, and of course, Bayou wanted to help! She remembers telling her mother she wanted to be a witch, too. Doris expected this to be the case, so she already had a little work station set up for Bayou to work side-by-side with her. She started by teaching her white magick rituals. She gradually showed her how to make potions and elixirs next. It wasn't until Bayou was 15 that she taught her how to make voodoo dolls and how to practice black magick.

Doris lived to be 100 years of age. Virgil lived to be 97. Bayou died December 21, 2005. She lived 101 years. She attributes her parents' and her longevity to magick. Her parents and her never so much as had a cold or a flu bug.

Another rule she has always abided by, taught to her by her mother, was to never cast black magick upon anyone undeserving of it. She only uses it as a means of rapid karma. She believes this is one of the biggest reasons why the gods and goddesses extended her life, and the lives of her parents, to the degree that they did, and allowed for them to all live healthy and happy lives.

Be prepared for bad things to happen to those who have wronged you or your loved ones. When Bayou gets wind of this, she will not take kindly to it.

On the light side, her strongest witchery is in manifesting good things to one's life. She is excellent at manifesting wealth, good health, good relationships, and happiness.

As you can see, her vessel is simply adorable! Her expression seems to change, depending on her mood. Her body is comprised of a box covered with yarn. She said there was a "decoration" glued to her head that has since gone missing. She would like us to put something in its place before she is adopted. We have just the thing! She wants it to be a surprise though, so we are not including pictures of this new hair décor in advance. She loves the item though, and she said you will just have to trust us!  Bayou told us it took her a long time to find this perfect vessel that looks almost exactly as she did when she was a young lady, so she does not wish to be bridged to any other object.

Offerings:

More than anything, Bayou enjoys when you allow her to work side-by-side with you when you practice the craft or when you meditate. She also likes to people watch. If you occasionally take her to a park, a busy mall, an airport, or anywhere that she can watch people in person, and she will be tickled for this treat! She likes to watch witch movies and documentaries, but she's not keen on the stories that tell of the torture of witches, including lynching punishments. Her favorite show is Bewitched. She does not care for the series called Charmed as much, because there is a character on there who reminds her of someone who picked on her as a child. (She did not specify which character). Her favorite foods are carrots, celery, onions, crawfish, shrimp, corn and salmon. She loves sweet tea and long island iced tea! If you don't have alcohol in your home, allow her to watch a video on how to make a LIIT, as we do for her here in the shop. Her favorite color is black. She loves seashells, hair decorations such as pins, barrettes, and ribbons, and she likes to look at dried flowers & herbs.
