X - ADOPTED! - Mermaid Spirit Doll and Wish Granter
Yes, she chose a Barbie vessel. When she was brought to us, those of us who were in the front room of the shop had our doubts she was haunted. Then Meta walked towards us from her office, and she said, "Whoa! I feel a Mermaid". (Meta was not in a spot of the room where she could see the woman holding the vessel).
Malayna was only 120 years old when she passed. She was born March 7, 1843 and passed away July 10, 1963. Mer people can live to be 300+ years of age. Her life was cut short due to a "barge accident". This is as much as she would tell Meta.
Malayna can manipulate the weather and when she was alive and well, she was also capable of shapeshifting. She does not like to manipulate the weather unless it is extremely important, so you won't want to ask her for nice, sunny, warm days every day that you're off work and want to have fun. Save these requests for weddings, vacations, etc.
She is also very strong. If you ever get locked into a dungeon, Malayna will kick the door down and get you out! You don't have to have Malayna's vessel with you if you find yourself in a pickle. Simply tell her to come with you when you want her to protect you or bring you good luck, and she'll be there. She can travel outside her vessel for as long as you ask her to, so you won't have to carry a Barbie Doll around with you everywhere you go.
Merfolk can be dangerous and not so nice to people, but Malayna is more of a people pleaser. This is not to say she won't flood your neighbor's yard with rain water if you have a bone to pick with them! She is happy to oblige with retaliation for her keeper. She grants certain wishes if she deems them necessary, and she enjoys human companionship.
As most people know, merfolk can work wonders with water, too.
She really wants to go to a person or a family who also has a Merman spirit, but if you don't have one, she will accept a promise from you that you'll adopt one sometime soon. When asked what she meant by "soon", she said a year or two max. She just misses having a Merman around all the time so that she can have intellectual Mer Conversation. She does see other merfolk in her travels, but she doesn't have one who is with her all the time, and she misses that. She had a Merman companion before she died, and he is still alive. She visits him occasionally, so she will need you to understand her desire to leave her vessel for a few hours a couple times a month, even if she has a new Mer companion in your home. Merfolk spirits are not capable of jealousy, so this will not be a problem for any Merman who comes into her life while in your keep.
Malayna's vessel is stunning, and it lights up when you press the pink flower on her chest. It is very dry in the shop, which is why her hair appears to be flying away. Static! It was not like this when she was brought to us, and when I took her outside with me for a quick sunshine break the other day, it laid flat. She tells us that this vessel is new for her, and she was attached to a hairbrush prior to occupying this Barbie doll. When she saw an ad for the doll, she told her keeper she had to have it. Her keeper passed away and her daughter inherited all of her things, including Malayna and two other spirits, which will also be listed soon. Her daughter said she simply does not have the ambition for spirit keeping, and she also needed to get together as much money together as she could for final expenses, so she brought Malayna to us.
Malayna likes Java Ferns, Wisteria, Seaweed and MoneyWort plants for food offerings. (Good luck!) But she also enjoys baby spinach, celery, radishes, white potatoes and chives, as long as you put a little sea salt on those items that do not come from the ocean. Many merfolk eat fish, as well, but Malayna does not. Her favorite colors are blue, green, and oddly enough, white.
She loves watching deep sea adventures and water sports. Her dislikes are The Little Mermaid, as she says it is so "fake" (lol...it's a cartoon!), and watching anyone chow down fish. You should not hide it from her if you are a fish eater, but she would like you to warn her that you will be cooking fish and have her vessel somewhere out of the way of the cooking and eating of fish.
Whatever you do, always be honest with her, as she will know if you are trying to hide something from her, and that will betray her trust. (Even if you feel you are hiding something from her for her own good). She is an adult, and she does not like dishonesty even if it is to keep her from having her feelings hurt. Simply say, "Malayna, we are having fish or crab cakes or whatever tonight for dinner. I will put your vessel in the bedroom before we start cooking and I will bring you back after the dishes are washed", and she will be happy that you had that honest conversation with her.
